20 July 2023 Windsor Castle
Today we headed back to London so that Alex could depart this adventure we shared. The last thing for her to do was Windsor Castle and Fish and Chips. Both boxes checked. I did do an ugly American thing today without realizing it. There was a picture of QE II on the wall next to our table. It was a fine painting, and an English Gentleman came by and commented that he was surprised that nobody had purchased the painting. I agreed with him, the painting was wonderful. Then he said "Queen Camilla wore the same crown at King Charles III coronation", to which I replied, "Lucky Girl". He walked off, and I was reminded by my daughter that I should keep my inside voice inside some times. She was right on, and I was right wrong.
I was a little disappointed with Windsor Castle. 1). No pictures were allowed anywhere inside the premises. 2). The crowds were terrible. Not only were there a lot of people, but they were very rude, especially the foreign types. And there were tons of school children in groups, and that makes it really tough to hear anything being spoken by a guide.
Windsor was by far the largest and nicest castle, but I think I was expecting more. It was almost like a Disney World atmosphere. Granted, I do hate crowds the older I get, but if there is a next time, I am coming in the off season. On a good note, I did get to pay my respects to Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh. There, I spelled it correctly this time.
Tomorrow is a travel day for both Alex and I. Her to the Great White North (and good coffee), and me for another 2 weeks in Jolly Ole England to visit more sites down the coast of Devon and Cornwall.
